If you had a new music group and needed to make up a name for your group, what name would you choose?
How would you go about finding a name?
It takes the right mixture of musicians, song writers and singers to make a successful musical group. Some groups go through various changes, from style of music, to group members and even the name of the group.
I’m sure it can be a challenge to find a name that fits.
Or… does it have to fit? Maybe it could be just be a made up word or rambling of sorts that sounds just right for a title.
Some artists put a lot of time into their new identity. They have a good feel for the new name or they do research to find out what kind of impact the new title would have for the fans and public they play for.
When asked why Lady Antebellum named their group, they told a story of visiting the south and seeing the beautiful antebellum plantations. Finding that the word, “antebellum” sounding so pretty, they threw a few words in front of it and “lady” stuck.
To many of us the word antebellum does seem like a pretty word. In actuality it was meant to sound pretty, as does many fluffy politically correct words do.
Mostly used these days to describe untarnished, perfectly preserved pre Civil War plantations, this word, “antebellum” really describes era of slavery acceptance and lifestyle.
The word may have been made up, and commonly used around civil war times in political situations to mask a “true situation” such as government continues to do today. (Conflict instead of war, resolve instead of coercion).
It seems as though each president comes into office with a set of new fluff words.
OK, I’m going off an a tangen, but you can see how important choosing the right title for any kind of group you represent can be.
I like the music group Lady Antebellum. My great friend Tone and I have filmed them up close. I’ve even been to a private session with them.
I’m most certain that if Lady Antebellum took the time to research the meaning of the title they were concidering, they most certainly would have left that one alone. I know I would have. -J.B. Nagle
